In Canada both Cable (Rogers being the key player) and Bell with their POTS and Fibre are not going anywhere soon. Many people are cord cutting but this service will be the foundation for TV for the unforeseen future and streaming just an add on service to their existing cable. There is some satellite as well for those who simply can’t get a wired service. The companies are stronger and richer than ever.

Remember the main streaming companies named in this article are no different than the monopolize satellite and cable companies. Hell even DirecTV has streaming. Products.

Cord cutting started getting big when digital came out with 50 or more channels added . I get 70 of them now .

You have to remember that for the longest time in the US, cable had no competition so they set the price. Once competition came in and was allowed in more and more communities, you now had that completion for the lowest price. Now that more have turned to double duty(streaming) and more streaming options popped up, prices rose to help offset the loss of business

I assume you are talking about over-the-air channels. Yeah, I currently get 72 channels and my wife watches that 95% of the time even though she has access to all the goodies I use.

I think because there is a certain demographic(s) that will just keep cable for the ease and simplicity. They could be monied, older, or just plain don’t like change. The cable companies know this and raising prices won’t significantly cause these people to drop out. The rest of us…stream on.

62 and cut the cord maybe 8 years ago. Was able to retire early and have money. Played the game with Comcast, Direct TV satellite, and Dish (was one of the first customers for Dish in the area in the 1990s). A friend turned me on to Troypoint and the rest was history. Could afford cable but the cost is usury. Most of the regulars here know far more than me regarding streaming stuff. Thanks to Insider, I was recently turned on to Tivimate…that I should have had years ago lol.

I would like to cut the cord but Rogers wants more for just internet than they do for Internet, tv and phone package.

Rogers has great packages if you hit customer loyalty /retention. I have a grandfathered package with Internet 500 dn, 30 up, Good TV, Home phone (Still free) It’s true, it’s almost cheaper than the internet itself. No reason to cut it.

Probably still paid for itself vs. cable in a couple of years lol. Start of the end of the cable monopoly.

I’m 10 years into cord-cutting…Standard Cable and Dish will die because of one word; “Greed.” They can’t resist bloating and flooding their product with unwanted and obtrusive built-in Ads. The bloat decreases consumer satisfaction with a slow drip. The bane of streaming has been and remains buffering, but that also slowly improves over time.

Cracks me up when people go on and on about “cutting the cord”. They aren’t really cutting anything - they’re just substituting one set of payments for another. Cable tv plus internet - $100-$200 a month. Internet plus streaming services - $100-$200 a month.

What’s the bid deal???

Your Math is your Math. Mine is prior Dish over $200 per month; then some Sports xtras for a few hundred more a year. Now IPTV plus real-debrid under $25 per month.

Well, yes, but the majority of “cord cutters” are doing it legally!

Decided to cut cable last week when they just raised 16 dollars without notifying me, put an antenna on the roof, I get over 60 clear channels , all I have now is internet with the cable company $ 43 a month versus $ 136 prior ,cost of antenna parts+ labor cost me around $ 500 ,it will pay off in less than 6 months, with firestick, and Kodi I’m all set
