Walmart Onn 4K Pro Review & Guides

I was trying to determine how old my ONN 4k was. If the first two numbers of the serial number is the year, it is a 2021 unit. Thanks for your suggestion.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Thanks for the suggestion. I will take a look if my Vizio TV has this option.

Also was using an old Dynex brand and it worked great. ā€œUpgradedā€ to ONNs and never looked back. The Dynex went into the shoebox with the firesticks/cube. Never did check wifi speeds…ONN vs Dynex. Not that I really care, if it’s works and is stable I’m good. That old Dynex was a good one.

Actually, the Dynex is a 42ā€ not real smart TV still in use, with the Onn 4K $19.99 box chugging right along :+1:

Ah, my Dynex media player without a lot of power seems to have chugged along without problems unlike the fire devices. Kind of looks like the ONN 4k box/dongle and the remote is very similar.

Edit: wait, the Dynex box’ remote is the same as my relatively powerful MeCool box (4/32) remote…which I’ve also retired in favor of an ONN Pro. If it works, it works.

Don’t know if you already returned it or not but just wanted to share my experience in case it helps. When I first got my Onn 4K Pro I thought the picture looked weird and I didn’t like it so I adjusted my TV to no end, only to realize later the problem was the Onn defaults to applying HDR to the video signal. I toggled that setting off and then my picture looked great again. I want my TV to do the heavy lifting and not my streaming device. Toggling it off simply tells the Onn to pass through the signal and let your TV make use of the HDR signal as needed. I’m not using the Onn now so I can’t remember the exact path to that setting but it shouldn’t be hard to find.

Anyway, for what it’s worth…

Sorry to have taken so long to reply. Had a fire in my home. It has been quite challenging dealing with repairs in a foreign country. I’m finally ready to try and tackle the Onn pro. If you could I would really appreciate it if you would explain to me how to use the hot spot to do the installation. I keep getting a notice that says it can only be used n the USA. I have Express VPN. I thought that would make it show that I was in the states and not a n Mexico. No matter what state I set it to I keep getting that message. I’m not as technical as I’d like to be. But I’m willing to try anything

I’m surprised no replies from our ā€œexpertsā€. I’m in US so haven’t had to jump through those hoops. Hard to believe there isn’t a TP video on this, or some really good advice in the ā€œsearchā€. Let us know when and how you figure it out.

This appears to be the best discussion regarding the set up of the ONN boxes outside of the USA.

I am happy to say that I have found a way to install the ONN 4K Pro in Mexico. After spending about 12 straight hours installing and re setting back to factory and changing my VPN to just about every state in the USA a little bulb when of in my head. I remembered that I had a router packed away that was pre set for the USA. I unpacked it and set it up. When I tried to install with the pre set router it worked immediately. Why I don’t know. I was using Express VPN and it would not work but the router is Aircove, pre set with Express VPN. I finally am good to go. The Onn 4K Pro set up is almost identical to the set up of my MeeCool boxes. I am very happy with the function of the streaming box. Hope this helps someone else that is pulling their hair out over this.:woman_facepalming:t3:

Cant beat the Onn 4k Pro for ā€œbang for your buckā€ quality streaming. They’re kinda like a little Tank, as they are rugged, reliable and snappy too. When not in use…it just sits there on the front line… waiting for service. When called on…it fires right up, ready for your command to launch an assault head-on into the streaming wars!!

I cannot believe the difference in performance of the Onn 4K Pro compared to the MeCool KM7+. The Onn is amazing for the price! The picture quality is much better, the audio is much better, and it very rarely buffers with anything I watch. I finally got to re-install Kodi, my favorite. It wouldn’t work with the new Adroid update to Android 14 on the MeCool. So it wasn’t the Android 14, it was the MeCool system, as Kodi works fine on the Onn with Android 14. I also have Stremio and Tivimate with my IPTV service, and still have over 20 gigs of free space left for anything else I would like to install. All for the price point of 44 dollars on sale. How can you beat that? You can’t!

You could have always set it up even without a router. I’ve covered this topic more times than I can count and all you never needed to do, was use a hotspot with the VPN set to the USA. Didn’t matter your phone, computer, or tablet. Worked perfectly. Using the VPN on the Onn could never work unfortunately. These or your router was the only way.

That’s what I was told. I am happy that I was able to get them set up. Thanks for responding.

Did you get the option to choose Canada. I purchase ONN 4K from Walmart Canada and it only had the choice of USA or Puerto Rico. I just wanted to confirm that ONN Pro 4K can be used in Canada,Thanks.
