Please keep us informed how the latest update goes.
Especially for h264 streams.using Hardware decoding, they don’t play, and with Software decoding
lots of dropped frames.

I had the Android 14 update then a remote update. No issues with either

On the Onn 4k Pro there is a switch on the left side as you face it, if you turn it off it will not listen for voice commands. You can still use voice commands via the remote.

The 4k Pro is supposed to only respond to “Hey Google” followed by a command. As it turns out it seems to here “hey Google” for a lot of phrases…

I downloaded the Blokada 5 apk from their site, but it shows as mobile app, as does Ad Guard from APK Time.
I searched Blakada on google play, it says not available on this device.

What are some that you are using for Google TV that work?

I have a bricked 2023 ONN 4k that has/had the Wolf Launcher. The device stopped getting to a launcher after the ONN logo showed. This device was very lightly used; it’s purpose was as a travel device.
The hard reset fails because the device instantly reboots before the reset option can be toggled down to.
I suspect that the problem is due either to the Launcher Manager not being recognized after the 14 update or the boot sequence being corrupted after the update. I guess that I got my $20 worth out of it.

BTW:
Miki, you merged the ONN 4k issue with booting into this 4K Pro thread. They’re significantly different devices. So this post is kind of off topic.

new packaging for the onn 4k pro devices. it is the blue packaging like the new onn 4k plus. I didn’t see any changes in specs, but i have one waiting for pickup tomorrow

and i will post any changes other than box color

Also something new from walmart website.. it now has a click and hold button to prove you are human. I tried posting the walmart link and it started doing that. Don’t know if coincidence.. or conspiracy LOL

2 step authorization is all the rage now to cut down on hacking, evidently it works?

All my android devices are now asking me to use “passkeys” . These seem to be the future instead of passwords. I followed my on screen prompts and now just use my fingerprint for entering the passkey.

Can I use something other than fingerprint?
Many times I’ve used my fingerprint to find out later something won’t recognize my fingerprint… what a pain ! Especially now since I fell and have a cast on my hand

Some devices can do facial rec. 2FA is still pretty good but not as secure.

Passkeys are actually a pretty good idea, it’s based on asymmetric encryption (public key) but the user doesn’t really have to do anything, the implementers do all the work, you don’t have to manually create a key pair, it all done for you.

I doubt it will be perfect but it’s a good step forward, I plan on using it every where I can eventually.

I don’t have enough information yet about how it all works, security like this is almost never transparent at first but the informational details will be out there sooner or later.

Can I ask why you are discussing the need for putting passwords/passkeys/2FA/facial recog etc…on your ONN Box? What is the need and concern? And the last thing I want to do is have to do some kind of log in each time when I want to watch a show/Movie or Live tV

Well for my part it’s just wandering off topic, @Miki mentioned passkeys in a post above and my background caused me to look into them a little (very little) awhile back so that triggered a “type response” response so here we are, sorry, probably dementia. :slightly_smiling_face:

Actually @Comtech posted about password authentication first and then I mentioned about passkeys as they’re becoming more mainstream. Certainly a growing trend for all devices where you might use a password, Onn included. Good day everyone.

I know off topic but I use the app Authenticator to protect accounts but not on my android box.

Can you point me in the directions on how to put addons onto the onn 4k pro? I am at a total loss and can not find the instructions on how to add. Thank you

@verna2197, let’s start with…what addons are you wanting to put on the ONN?

On the Troypoint site, Troy has tutorials for just about any addon that you may want. Although Troy lists the addon tutorial are for Fire Sticks, he also includes the instructions for Google/Android also.

To find the link to the Troypoint site, just look at the left side column here. It should be the 3rd listing down. “TROYPOINT Site”. Please let us know if you are still having trouble.

Thank you for answering me JerryJ I would like to put on there what I had on the Firestick which is Dream TV, Scrubs, Elementum & Burst and Keymap Editor. If this is possible. Yes I have been to Troypoint Site but get confused on account everything says for Firestick. So are you saying I put the addon just the same way as if it was a Firestick?

In all of Troy’s tutorials, he will mention that it will work with various streaming boxes.

“In this tutorial, we are using an Amazon Firestick 4K but this process will also work for any Kodi device including Android TV/Google TV, PC, Linux, phone, tablet, and more.”
