Shhhh. Don’t let anyone know.
Oh damn too late. $296 CDN.
Holy moly , 100 bucks less. Did you find a different store?
Have to wait until next month. Got a medical trip and tests that will set me back $400 first. Got to travel to see a cardiologist.
Oopps typo lol. Damn.
Thanks all … I just pulled the trigger on one as well.
I hope all goes well for you @Miki … I appreciate all of your support/posts on the forums.
Same here.
Good luck. The cardiologists can do amazing things now, I have experienced it!
Okay. So what’s the bottom line on this illicit sex question? Is the Ugoos SK1 a must have item?
I think it is. Have to hope Santa is good to me.
if you have the am8… as I do i’d wait as they are very similar. imho
The AM8 Pro. is $270 Cdn. As I consider you @TXRon the best person for cpu and gpu stuff, why would you recommend the AM8 over the SK1? I don’t see HDR 10 or 10+ or widevine on the AM8 and a smaller ROM. What am I missing?.
It’s a must have for me, no disappointments whatsoever. Even think I may eventually get another one for a backup.
They are very close in specs. The widevine support if needed go sk1. Not sure if sk1 has a root switch built in and maybe not needed for most but I do like having it, maybe @PapaS can tell us if it has a root switch. The sk1 looks like it has more internal storage. My fav am8 is the all metal box for heat but I do believe the sk1 has a very large heatsink. Both great boxes imho.
From what I read it does have a root switch.
It does have the Magisk root switch.
most likely you will never need the switch but its nice to have for “just in case” stuff. Most if not all certified boxes ive ever seen do not offer root built in mostly because google says so. So if its got a switch and widevine …perfect.
Before today I’d never heard about Widevine. But I did find the following in a review on the SK1: “the lack of Netflix and other streaming services licenses made the all Widevine L1 DRM support pretty useless.” Apparently those licenses are just as important as the Widevine L1.
I thought I read somewhere that Widevine will not work with root. I may be wrong though.
I believe that is correct.
edit…or it was at one time
