I think it depends on what you consider stock Android. The Android Stock OS is very basic and not as feature rich as Android TV or the Fire TV. The market share has gone towards ATV and FTV. They are now in the majority.
Sorry about not focusing on the Flauncher. I’m very happy with the Wolf launcher on my Fire TV OS.
Hi @Dak7385
I can’t speak for @TROYPOINT; so on a number of videos he mentions preferring the AndroidTV OS because it is optimized for televisions where as stock android is optimized for phones, tablets.
The download and install directions are the same for both, just how you access them to do the download may be different in some cases.
Thank you for your thoughts. I have tried both systems and for me, android stock OS is more suitable and hooks up to my TV and works extremely well, without having to use a sideloader every time, I cannot access an app/apk in play store.
This is the beauty of this forum, we can all discuss what works and what doesn’t, and ask for help when we need it. I’m thankful to have options to choose from as I personally have 3 devices connected, stock android OS, AndroidTV OS, and FireOS to my television; so I can certainly appreciate and understand your experience.
Merry Christmas to you and your family.
I have a question - we have a FireCube running Wolf Launcher. Can FLauncher be installed alongside it to try it out without harming our Wolf settings? Just curious.
And a very merry Christmas to you and your loved ones.
I totally agree with your comments. I was given an Android TV OS device to test. But, I just didn’t like the constant need to sideload apps/apks that were not available in Play Store.
I purchased a Sony Android TV 3 years ago, having researched numerous brands and models. I chose it because of the picture quality and various other options.
Sadly, I did not appreciate that I needed to sideload certain apps/apks etc. But it works superbly well with my Minix u22xj.
These launchers do in fact work on Android stock boxes, Android os works really good.
Also most of the people in this community probably use the most common device’s which are what he mentions in his post.
Most android devices including stock boxes typically run the same when installing apps apks and using custom launchers. However not all custom launchers will work on every single android stock box probably due to how modified the os is or if it’s semi closed to the unit.
You don’t have to use everything troypoint suggests, find something that works for you and use it. There is guides on most common applications. Alot of people use wolf over f launcher, there is others out there too. I’m not sure why it’s not working for you I’m not familiar with your box or how the os is setup, I’d suggest Google searching your box or trying others.
Example I have a z8 and getting a z10 pro max they are semi closed boxes with modified Android 9 and 10. Can’t use custom roms.
Not sure why you would need a sidelauncher every time. But like your analogy regarding betamax, if you choose to use an OS that is much more basic and it works for you, great. I much prefer the very latest in coding especially. Things like the WiFi 6 in the Max compared to say dialup. Have a Merry Chistmas.
It would be my pleasure. Have a great night and a Merry Christmas. Oh and unfortunately continuing in this thread with a different topic than the original post was intended for, violates the rules. Thank you for the challenge though it’s amusing.
