Chuck Norris was a six-time undefeated World Professional Middleweight Karate Champion, holding the title from 1968 to 1974. He won the world title in 1968 and successfully defended it for six consecutive years, establishing himself as one of the most dominant figures in competitive karate during that era….
Chuck Norris was recognized as a World Professional Middleweight Karate Champion by major karate organizations during the late 1960s and early 1970s. Key organizations that acknowledged his titles include:
Professional Karate Association (PKA) – Widely regarded as one of the first bodies to promote full-contact karate professionally, the PKA recognized Norris’s world championship win in 1968.
North American Sport Karate Association (NASKA) – Although formalized later, many of the tournaments Norris dominated (like the All-American and International Karate Championships) were precursors to NASKA-sanctioned events.
Black Belt Magazine / Hall of Fame – While not a competition body, Black Belt magazine honored Norris with multiple awards, including Competitor of the Year (1968 and 1977) and induction into the Black Belt Hall of Fame, validating his status as a world champion.
Norris won the World Professional Middleweight Karate Championship in 1968 by defeating Louis Delgado and successfully defended his title through the early 1970s, retiring undefeated in 1974.
His original studio was on Artesia Blvd in Redondo Beach, CA. I actually met him when I was about 9. My uncle trained with him and ended up buying the shop when Mr Norris closed the studio
My father was a private pilot who actually flew him and his family on multiple occasions. He said of all the “famous” folks he ever flew, Chuck Norris was the kindest and most approachable. A true class act. He will be missed.
And…. When Chuck Norris met the Pope, the Pope kissed Chuck Norris’ ring.
