I know this is for Android apps and most here use Android but I though this is a pretty significant development.
Stremio now has an official app for the AppleTV in the Apple app store. It is the initial release and is buggy and lacks feature parity with the Android version right now. It required a debrid since Apple won’t allow torrents and no external players like Infuse so Atmos does not work currently (I think it just converts it to PCM). The same login works and your addons etc sync over but I don’t think every addon works. I’m sure it will get better.
I find it interesting that Apple is allowing more apps like Stremio and its clones while Amazon is going in the opposite direction. If you have an AppleTV I would check it out.
I’m sure this is a colossal oversight on Apple’s part. The initial version was as described above but a full streaming version was released earlier this year. Sadly, it may bring more attention to the app than just its presence on the iPhone and I’m sure it will be pulled very soon.
That was a different version. This version released 2 days ago and is streaming capable with debrid support, they just can’t access torrents directly. I watched a full movie, it works, I promise.
It isn’t an oversight. For whatever reason Apple has been letting these apps through for quite some time. Omni, Vidi, and Fusion (still in TestFlight) have allowed streaming with Stremio addons for a while now. Strermio is just the big name and much easier for most to setup.
Vidi was semi-abandoned for a while, I’m not sure what its status is now. I’ve been using both Omni and Fusion and both have been great; they require more setup but are very customizable.
Stremio is serviceable as it is but I’m sure will get much better. There is a section in the settings to select which player to use but the only option for now is the built in KS player. If/when they add Infuse it will be a major advancement. Infuse is the standard on Apple TV.
