OK, I was under the impression you were down loading the entire 35gig, streaming is a different matter, my bad. I agree your method would work, the only thing is the shear space these files require, you could likely store 15 - 20 1.5 gig movies in the same space.
I don’t ever record and if I did my system has 256GBs of internal storage with space to plug in more if needed. There are those here who record to a NAS, so really, space isn’t a concern, if you have the proper setup. I remember in the 90’s, with dialup, a movie would take a day or two to download. Oh and I forgot cloud storage.
