Purely Unsolicited Theoretical Conjecture on VPNs

So you do use a VPN when you download movies from another source besides your IPTV service!

When you stream from an IPTV service they’re the only ones that see what you’re streaming ABC NBC and all the others don’t. However when you download let’s say off of stremio that comes directly from CBS or NBC servers and that’s where they get you and they don’t get you personally they have to get you through ur isp.

When you download off of Stremio it comes directly from CBS or NBC servers??? Where did you get this information from? This is not true at all, or I’m misunderstanding what you’re saying.

I’ve never downloaded anything from my IPTV service. The only downloads I do are few and far between and when I do it’s from KODI and that is the only time I use my VPN

I always use a vpn when watching mma ppv fights and new movies. I would rather deal with a vpn than a hefty fine.

Until I see a reduced quality of streaming because of using a vpn. Then I see no need NOT to use one. If using a vpn doesn’t adversely affect my streaming. Then I will continue to use a vpn. Why not?

See that is the thing and the Herd mentality that everyone wants you to believe. Who is getting hefty fines from NOT using a VPN? Where is the proof? Been streaming VPN Free over 5 years and I got Donuts!

Until I see where using a vpn degrades my streaming. Then I will continue to use one. Why not?

I do not experience any adverse effects when using a vpn. So, why not use one?

If your speeds are so low that using a vpn will degrade the stream. Then I might understand. However, if your stream is not adversely affected by using a vpn. Then it is idiotic not to use one. Logic 101

I started using a VPN strictly for one reason, to watch Astros baseball after I’d paid their price for a season and found out their home games that I was local, 5 hours away and 330 miles but local. Before I started ā€˜reading the mail’ on Troypoint for years and finally joining, I had been watching other websites concerning VPN usuage and have seen fines handed out after 2 warnings ignored of $1000 each. Kind of steep concerning watching something or streaming something I thought. So, I purchased and use a Lifetime VPN cause I didn’t want the monthly worry and haven’t looked back for about 5 years now and will continue to do so. I have Vexus Fiber internet only but they offer TV and phone. Their TV buffers on the lower channels so I disconnected it and the phone and replaced the phone with Ooma and haven’t looked back and am very satisfied. As far as VPN, I’ll use it without any fear of having letters looking for me for fines. Sad to say but I’ll agree that most of the bigger companies would make it illegal to have VPNs if they had their way and the bigger companies that keep on getting bigger by buying smaller companies might in the future have those possibilities in DC Gov’t. Until then, I’ll stream and watch what I want with my VPN and answer to no gov’t entity. End Of Rant!!!

Yea it’s crazy 330 miles away, or more and considered local. All about the moolah. What VPN offers a lifetime sub?

FastestVPN offers MTM and Lifetime sometimes. I think right now it’s on sale for $40. I paid $90 about 5-6 years ago. I haven’t tried SS but from everything I’ve read, my VPN doesn’t everything that SS does and I can also dictate which streams go through the VPN and which ones doesn’t. SS probably does to but I don’t remember anyone mentioning it.

I got an infringement letter of copyrights infringements. It came from AT&t via CBS. Because of confidentiality rights AT&t cannot give me up but they can warn me and then they cut me off. So yes I do use a VPN. This is from downloading something from streamio. For about 3 months I did use my IPTV service without a VPN because I was having issues with the vpns back then and I never did receive a letter. But I’m not taking no More chances.

I’m a side loader on my jailbroken fire stick for several years now. No VPN. I have Xfinity Internet only. Never a letter or threat at all.

Good for you.

I had a Xfinity tech at my house. He was checking my modem for a possible speed issue. He did go over all my connections and checked for possible drops and issues for up and down loading speeds to my output. He was into streaming, and using other services than Xfininity. He mentioned to me that using a VPN was BS. He has been streaming for years and never used a VPN. He mentioned to me that never download or store anything on your drive especially Movies. That if you are only viewing and not downloading you will be fine. Don’t waste money on a VPN. If you live in Canada or UK-or Italy-I believe could be-(are) different rules and regulations.

I’ve seen several people that say they say there’s not problem not using a VPN but I’ve read on several other internet sites, not saying the names, that warnings have come out twice before the fine shows up and it was $1000. I have no way of saying whether that was true or false or just someone’s opinion using the fine as their way of making it dramatic. Nevertheless, I’m not going to take any chances and go ahead and use my VPN, it’s paid for so I’m not out anymore money and don’t want to take any chances. Those that have streamed w/o VPN and not gotten caught, more power to you and I hope you don’t get caught but if you do, you’ll change your mind quickly!

There will always be a difference of opinion with this belief. It’s no different than the long standing argument of whether it’s acceptable or not that cars burn an X amount of motor oil between changes - or whether or not you really need a 3rd party antivirus program.

Some will argue that as long as you’re not downloading, and just streaming, you’ll be overlooked. It doesn’t mean one still can’t get implicated…eventually.

I’m in the camp that believe it’s best not to leave any footprints as I find comfort in anonymity.

There’s always the clichĆ© that’s been around forever - better safe than sorry.

Has anyone used FastestVPN Pro? If so, I’m curious the results. They do offer lifetime occasionally or if you go to the right website. Looks pretty legit with Wireguard protocol and a good amount of locations. Just curious how it compares to SS or IPVanish, etc.

I’ll tell you as much about FastestVPN that I know and I’ve done business with FastestVPN since 2018. I only went after a VPN because me, living in Hammond Louisiana, being 350 or so miles from Minute Maid Park, where the Houston Astros played then, was considered local by MLB.com so I couldn’t watch their home games. I paid for the entire season and opening day, they were on the road so no problem, I watched the games. Their first game in Houston, they were blacked out. Since I paid, I wanted to watch the home games also. Looking for a VPN, I wanted a lifetime possibility and no one was offering a LT VPN except FastestVPN for $80 so I bought it and it worked perfectly. None of the VPNs advertised or pushed on Troypoint even came close to increased speed and I tried them all but again, they didn’t offer Lifetime VPNs and I don’t think they do still. I looked at the LT as a money winner and it’s paid off time and time again moneywise a good deal if you look at what they are monthly times how long I’ve had it. I’ve had several of my friends get FastestVPN Lifetime and the price came down on certain specials like Black Friday for $40, WOW! Maybe it was my location that they weren’t better. I could watch the Astros as though I was outside of their local area with no problem using the Miami server. They added Wiregard feature back in 2021 with the Pro Edition added to the LT package for $20 so now for $100 total I’ve a LT Wiregard and it’s really good. My speeds are acceptable because I have a fiber connection internet of 1G that usually gives me 500down normally with VPN is 20% of that speed. I wish it was more than 20% but getting 100down usually is not problem watching anything I want. My closest server is Dallas or Miami is second and there are a lot of other servers that I get close to the Dallas server but not quite the performance of Dallas server. The FastestVPN App sometimes says my preferred speed is Mexico City but it has only been better than Dallas a couple of times and I think it was because there was a problem with the Dallas servers. Any other questions, I’ll try to help. Hope this helps.
