PS4 Jailbreak Tool

Of course. But there’s already plenty of games out there to play and be satisfied without paying $500+ for a PS5 plus $60+ per game.

Who told you that?

NBA2K26 for example.

“Legacy games will still be purchasable, but there won’t be new ones – their focus will shift entirely to the PlayStation 5.”

We seemed to have gone off topic here lol. The point was to get a PS4 or older game system and jailbreak it to play already existing games for free. Not to play the newest games released. I’d get a PS5 Pro if that were the case. But yes, I acknowledge that the PS4 is being phased out from the retail market.

Just a follow up on how it went. I got the P4 tool after a long wait for shipping. I ordered on AliExpress and I think the seller lied about being located in the USA. When I checked the tracking information on USPS, it said the package was with a “shipping partner” in Jamaica, NY for over a week before the post office finally took possession of it. I have a feeling in that amount of time it was actually coming from China. I know it’s made in China, so that doesn’t matter. I was just hoping for faster shipping.

Anyway, the device comes preconfigured for firmware version 11.0 and I am still on 10.5. Flashing it to the right version wasn’t too difficult, but the instructions weren’t totally clear. It’s important to know that there are two options when you flash the device. Which one you use depends on whether you want to use the built in web browser on your PS4 to do the jailbreak. With the web version, it works for multiple firmware versions. You just plug it in, setup the PPPoe internet connection to the device, then open the web browser and type in the IP address to get to the menu. You choose which firmware your PS4 is on, hit save, then run PPPwn (also making sure the USB flash drive is plugged in with the HEN payload on it). Give it a few minutes and you’ll see that HEN payload was installed. That means the jailbreak worked. You can then unplug the USB drive because you don’t need it anymore. You can unplug the P4 device too if you want, but you’ll need it again if you completely shut down or unplug your console. If you just keep it in rest mode then the jailbreak will stay active.

I did try to flash the non-web version for my specific firmware but it didn’t work. In theory, that version should automatically run the jailbreak when the device starts up without having to open the web browser or do anything.

Installing games is pretty easy. Just download .pkg files from the internet (can’t tell you where because it violates the rules) and put those files in the root folder of a flash drive, SSD, HDD, etc. Plug it into the PS4, open HEN, choose the first menu item, then hit install PKG. It can take well over an hour for some games to install. The largest ones are over 100GB in size, so you probably want to install only a few games at a time or upgrade your consoles hard drive to a 2TB or larger SSD.

I got back into gaming also even though the PS3 and Xbox 360 were the last great modded consoles but that’s cool about PS4 Pro with the device but after PS5 and Xbox series I don’t think I could go back even to PS4 Pro but be on the lookout coming in 2026 and OEM version of the next Xbox console which is actually going to be a PC console hybrid which is really exciting but as far as a source for games for many years the best source for games and movies was what’s called usenet Newsgroups but you would have to look up how to use those

I remember downloading Sega Dreamcast game “backups” from newsgroups back in ‘99.

Burning them to a CD with DiscJuggler.
