Picture quality on some builds

OMG those with Dolby atmos. The picture is so clear you would swear you were just looking out a window at what you’re watching, and the sound!! Sometimes it hits my “adaptive” setup with such force I jump. Lol. I had to watch Top Gun all over again. If you’re getting a Samsung surround sound setup, be sure and get the SmartThings app on your phone. You can tune your setup from your phone while watching a movie. It’s awesome.

Funny on my Samsung which is only an UHD model 8 years old I really can’t use HDR because the picture is so washed out. Unfortunately I have to use Vivid to get a decent picture. Saving up for a new OLED this fall

Oh yea. I had a 10 yr old Samsung in Mexico and had to focus on 720 and 1080. Now I’ll wait for uploaders to release a 4K, HDR or HDR10+

On one of the Reddit feeds is all about OLED and right now it’s like anything, a plethora(big word) of opinions. It would be nice to have a discussion here on what everyone uses and why. I’ll wait til Black Friday or around Super Bowl. Just searched and found all of them

There was a discussion about 10 months back when this was discusssed. Things change so quickly in this hobby.

I think part of what we are still dealing with is there is still a lot of streaming content out there that hasn’t caught up to the capabilities of 4k and HDR TVs. Most of the open source IPTV services I have watched have varying resolutions that are better than 720p, but not even full 1080HD. Case in point…I watched a recent movie that looked great on my 65” LG Oled, but the resolution was only 1080x560. I wonder if the issue is to prevent overloading bandwidth and preventing buffering most IPTV providers have gone to lower resolution streams to prevent those performance problems and customer complaints.

Fortunately my services have a lot of 1080 x 720 60FPS and the odd 1920 x 1080 60FPS. Which is the best I’ve seen for IPTV. I do shoot for the 4K and HDR for my movies and will often wait and until I can get those, but I think you are absolutely right. It takes more bandwidth and that costs more money.

If push comes to shove, I can always dig into my 4k Blu-ray Disc library for the “Full Monty” picture and sound experience. :sunglasses:

I have access to tons of blu ray sources in Stremio and believe it or not, they’re a big step down from HDR and HDR 10+
With HDR technology, 4K videos surpass Blu-ray in the definition, contrast, brightness, and color that viewers see. Definition and texture is very impressive, especially when viewed on a large screen.

Yes, plenty on Umbrella addon in Kodi if you use Real Debrid. It will show you the regular HDR icon at the bottom but you can read the scrolling file description to see if it says plus.

Also, you can go into the addon settings and prioritize HDR and Dolby Vision files to the top. You can remove other file types manually if you scroll down further.

I get so confused by these techy catch words sometimes. My Samsung has “Premium UHD” (UHD+?). There is a setting for using UHD+ for external devices. So i guess its the same.

I love the HDR10+ with Dolby Atmos. Finally I’m getting to watch movies the way I paid the big bicks to get. Woooo hooo. I may have to reinstall Kodi again and take a look at Umbrella. I have RD and Trakt so that with Kodi sure is a powerhouse.

I did pull the HDR links up on Umbrella, but couldn’t tell if it was actually HDR10 or HDR10+. How can you tell?

Yup. And don’t forget Dolby vision and Atmos.

Dolby Vision doesn’t help me at all. Samsung systems can’t play DD but the Atmos is sweet on my Surround System for sure.

Not really sure to be honest. I usually go for the Dolby Vision files because they are the best. I’ll have to play around with it tomorrow to see if I can find a link that has HDR10+ without Dolby Vision and see what happens. Usually when your TV switches resolution or formats you’ll see the icon in the top corner of the screen. I’ll see if anything pops up for me. It’s been a long weekend and I’m going to bed lol.

UHD+ is extremely rare in televisions. That resolution is 5120 x 2880 versus normal UHD, which is 2560 x 1440. The aspect ratio is still 16:9 though. In layman’s terms, it’s a 5K x 3K TV. But that has nothing to do with Dolby Vision or HDR. You’re talking pixel density versus color reproduction.

Sorry, you are correct. Its been labeled as “Premium UHD” but in the setting there is a HDR+ mode. I told you these terms get me confused. Lol i guess its preHDR10+.

Its an older 2018ish? UN55MU9000 series samsung tv.
