Nvidia shield system

I’ve got the Onn pro, and I am still experiencing offering during peak viewing times. Is it a function of my own system, or my Internet? I have plenty of Internet coming into the box, just wondering if it’s actually being used efficiently.

I had a Nvidia Shield for over 6 years. Great box until I over sprayed the inside with to much tuner spray . ā€œME BADā€ . I bought a Ogoos AM9 an every time I rebooted the box I lost every one of my apps even the legal ones from playstore. The apps were still their but wouldn’t open. After four resets I sent it back. I rebought a Shield an never looked back. Best box I ever ownd.

Could be several things. If you’re on cable, your sharing bandwidth with others who are on your cable service. The more people accessing the Internet during peak times will affect your speed, which can cause buffering when you watch something. Also, are you using a VPN? VPNs will slow down your speed. Generally speaking, you should have at least 25 mbps. Is your Internet provider, providing that speed, and two, is your system able to process that speed? The ONN can handle that, so I’d look into your modem, your router, whether you’re using a VPN, and if your IP is sending you a signal of at least 25 mbps. Do a speed test with a browser, and see what your download speed is. That should give you an indication of if your getting an adequate download speed. Nowadays, it would be shocking if you’re not getting at least 25 mbps! The number of people accessing a particular site on the Internet, can also cause buffering and other connectivity issues. Just to note, I get over 400 mbps download speed, but, still experience buffering because of network traffic.

Beyond the expense of the streaming device itself is how good the rest of your equipment is, and that includes how discerning your eyes and ears are.

I had the same issue with my Shield Pro. I reset it and reinstalled my apps and don’t use it on the network anymore. Still, for seven year old tech it still stands up well against the competition even with the new processors.

I am new and just starting out trying to finally get rid of satellite after 30+ years. It’s a big change but this forum has been terrific. If I want the very best box that money can buy, is this the box? I have a 75" tv and 5.1 surround sound. I appreciate your help! I ordered this box today and nordvpn plus. Internet is fiber, 2gbps up and down.

Couldn’t your NAS be configured as a Jellyfin server? I’d think that the Shield would be a killer Jellyfin client.

Thank you, appreciate the welcome and the site! Excited to be getting the nvidia delivered today, one step closer to being free from directv after 30+ years.

I’m not sure I want to get into Jellyfin as it’s a bit over my head at this time. After years of Fortran, Cobol, Basic, C, Lotus macros, Excel Macros, Visual Basic etc. I am not sure I want to start a new chapter. Anyway, I have what I need and I will continue to dabble in my home(s) networks. I heard of the possibility of Nvidia upgrading the Shield Pro but I’m not holding my breath but it sure would be nice to have new cpu and video processors.

@raven41951 …i think @TXRon has some instructions for using Jellyfin in his NAS setup…

@Bluetaurus I’m not certain that the Shield Pro is the best you can buy, at this time, but my Shield is still my favorite. I also have the Ugoos AM9 and the ONN Pro but the Shield is still solid and doesn’t give me any issues that I’ve found with the other two boxes.

Hi there, I tried the formuler z12 which would not control my a/v receiver. Now I just got the shield pro and the only way you can play atmos is by using pass through which renders Kodi audio amplification grayed out and unusable. Also every show or movie you have to go into the settings bar and allow pass through. Sent both boxes back for those issues, which the onn 4k pro doesn’t have! Still searching for an uncertified android box that works like the 4k pro. Just to get away from google control. My 2 cents! Cheers:beer_mug:

Merry Christmas! Yule never regret leaving satellite.
