New TDUK App to provide System-Wide Ad blocking

Working fine (no ads) on The Roku Channel. I’ve watched 2 different shows (episodes) ad free.

System-Wide is a Stretch, but it could be useful to get rid of those pesky Sports Book Betting and Porn ad pop ups on the live sports apps.

F.A.S.T apps and subscription services have embedded ads that can’t be removed

Just curious. When you say ad free, do you mean the slotted time for the ad is a blank screen or cut out and skipped?

Cut out. Seamless viewing no skip or blank screen

Yes, the embedded adverts wont be blocked.

If any application calls another site/host to deliver the advert, then those are the ones that can be blocked as the most common ad-delivery domains are in the adguard list.

For any domains that are not in the list, you can use something like NextDNS (which does support encrypted DNS and has a free basic plan) which allows you to add any domain you want to block adverts from.

I personally use that in my house and use the following pre-defined block lists:

This is why my new app allows you to manually enter a DNS server, as if you use something like NextDNS, your dns server address will be xxxxx.dns.nextdns.io where xxxxx is your unique identifier for your profile.

Even if your usage of this app is infrequent, when it does help it’s effective and for $2 lifetime … can you say … No Brainer

Just for the amount of time I get bombarded with ads on Rumble now, I’ll be getting for sure. :slightly_smiling_face:

I tested out 3 FAST apps (Pluto, Plex, and Roku, and they all showed commercials.

However, I also tested TheTVApp and it played all the channels that used to be blocked, i.e. ESPN, ESPN2, etc… Now I am not certain if those channels have been unblocked since the last time I accessed that streaming site.

I haven’t been able to determine if this app helps in reducing buffering. I normally don’t get much buffer issues in the first place, but I will test and post more definitive observations.

Yep, they seem to block those channels when they are airing something special. I forget what was going on a few months ago for the reason they blocked those channels.

That’s a nice site to have as your backup to your backups viewing. lol

Yeah i dont know why either but they kept them blocked for a while. I remember checking not that long ago and they were still blocked. Maybe a few weeks ago.

After you mentioned it I decided to try again and they were back.

But for how long?

Thankfully there are many options.

its a very good point and its exactly why I didn’t call the app “TDUK Ad blocker” or even mention the word AD.

I will be marketed to Google Play as an app that can help you change your DNS servers

Just check the TV app and now ESPN and those blocked channels now work without a VPN or ad blocker

That proves they were using DNS to block those channels. Using the encrypted DNS means they can’t monitor what urls/addresses you want to connect to and therefore those previous blocks would be removed.

Can the DNS app work with Surfshark running? I tried a different DNS app in past but then Surfshark didn’t work correctly? If so please send me a copy to test.
