MINIX U8K-Ultra Android Box First Impressions Video

Note: I forgot to mention this in the video but Google voice assistant doesn’t work when using Onn remote control. It does work with included MINIX remote.

It is a good fast box with a ton of options. It takes some tinkering for the perfect setup. They are adding a basic AOSP launcher in the update that is rolling out, but Projectivy is definitely the way to go,

They have their own forum with direct access to the head developer and take feedback into consideration for updates and features. If you have a specific app with compatibility problems they will try to fix it.

You should be able to use a program like TVQuickactions Pro to remap the voice button on the ONN remote to voice search. It worked for me with a generic remote. Also the Miinx remote works well with the air mouse for those keyboards if you don’t want to flip over to the full physical keyboard.

They addressed why they didn’t/won’t go 64 bit OS here..

The spoofing WiFI and HDMI are for some overseas apps to allow corrrect operation, I don’t use any so can’t provide specifics.

They are good about updates and are in the process of releasing Ver 3 that they had to temp stop while fixing a bug. They have promised Android 14 in the future.

Thanks Troy. I only use the remote to turn it on, get to what I want to view and navigate to turn it off. I am going to load Projectivy on mine also as I’m not a fan of the stock interface either, but I dont linger on it long anyway. I look forward to future updates on the device as I do use them a lot (I have two). I also look forward to your in-depth review later.

It’s a very nice looking box, thanks for reviewing it Troy.

Don’t think I would like the remote that comes with the minix either, so very good to see you can byor (bring your own remote) hehe

And…more props for projectivy, it’s one of the first apps I add to every new streaming device I get.

I have had both a UH9 and U22 units in the past. I do hope they do a better job in customer service. The UH9 was the best unit at that time, but they stopped updating it and customer service was really bad. They wanted everyone to buy the 22 model and it wasn’t much better. I stopped using them a few years ago because they stopped functioning well. They are an investment because of the cost and I hope they do a better job this time around

Thoughts on best devices to use at a home with multiple TV’s?

I personally use BuzzTV PowerStation 6 in our main room where we watch most movies and have our surround sound system setup. I was using NVIDIA Shield in this room but now mostly using the new P6. Then, on the less used TVs I use the Onn 4K Pro.
