Ran across this article and wanted to share as I found it interesting. It’s sad that Stranger Things is coming to an end. A lot of it was filmed close to our home. We liked to watch each episode and try to pick out areas and stores, etc we are familiar with.
Enjoy this read about some of the longest episodes ever (not only Stranger Things) and please post your thoughts / feedback.
I was watching a British police series with 10 yrs of running and I think it was 4 episodes per year with each episode being 1-1/2 hrs long. I am looking for it again as when my Pixel tablet updated to Android 16 it completely corrupted my Stremio to the point where even completely deleting all addons and uninstalling and trying to reinstall which it then said there was no compatible Stremio app for my device, and the manifests were so corrupt, in my stremio web account, it simply wouldn’t run. I literally had to wipe all of my account, create a new one, with another email, and start from scratch. Oh what fun. But ya I have seen a number of lengthy episodes but I would much prefer a weekly release of a new episode, for each series, for an entire year.
It was an interesting read. Thanks Reece! I feel when a season of a show I watch is only 8 episodes, that is too short. But of course, that leaves more material for more seasons. I kind of miss the 12 or more episode seasons. It gets me disinterested when it takes two years to complete a new season and then it is only 8 episodes that are only 45 mins each. One hour episodes are the perfect length for me. Just my two cents worth.
Heck try 6 or 7 episode seasons. Walking Dead Daryl Dixon as an example. 7 episodes this season, with the claim being that the quality is better because of the limited number of episodes. I completely disagree. The quality isn’t any better and the ratings reflect it. It’s averaging less that 250k viewers per episode.
I came from an era where there were 30-35 episodes per season, sure there were some stinkers sometimes, but the viewer was always able to connect with the characters. It’s impossible to do that anymore. Then they have up to 2 year breaks between seasons, hell by that time why should we even care?
Check out Blue Bloods (crime drama). 14 seasons with 20ish episodes a season. And a new show Boston Blue features Donnie Wahlberg who played detective Danny Reagan on Blue Bloods
I’m on the fence about Boston Blue, but after one episode I can’t really make an honest opinion, yet.
@Dminor9 this has been my issue with Silo,Ted Lasso and Slow Horses. Too much time between seasons. And for this reason I prefer to chase down TV series’s that are completed. As an example, Highlander was 8 seasons so I watched one episode per night until completion. The same with Sherlock and followed with Elementary. Now I’m working my way through Britannia and Kiljoys.
I, myself prefer the 45-60 minute format so that I can watch two series’s per evening with a break in the middle.
Thats the way I watched The Blacklist. Man that was a great show. I had to explain what “Jumped the Shark” meant to my wife After I deduced thats what happened to the series after the situation with “Elizabeth” (see what I did there??.. as to giving NO SPOILERS to that one sad person who has not watched the series…AND @Dminor9 who is NOT sad but just missed it but can now be a STREAMING HERO and watch EVERY episode in order, commercial free and be all the wiser for it..
) but alas I was wrong as the writers “Powered-Thru” with great episodes on to the end!
I do the same. I wait until an entire season is over before watching. Or the entire series is over. I do not like waiting for a weekly episode or waiting for the next season. I always end up having to re-watch the previous season to remember what the hell happened before the new season starts.
Never heard of the show Blacklist. After reading a blurb about it, I will have to check it out. 10 seasons is a long show. I guess I am that “one sad person” who has not watched the show. ![]()
Errr @Dminor9 did you even read what I said sir? huh…didya read it??..whats that you say??..I EDITED WHAT? NO WAY!!! Now stream on streamer! You have TEN AWESOME SEASONS to get to. Heres an HONESTY CHALLENGE for ya: Try to watch ONLY ONE EPISODE a day (and good luck with that!) Be sure to report your efforts here!!
Never heard of Blacklist either but a simple google search reveals there is a show called “The Blacklist” @Reece is this the show you are talking about?
It’s all in good fun my friend! Since I am retired and stuck indoors most of the time (due to health issues), I doubt I can stick to the one episode a day challenge. We shall see.
I hear ya and totally understand. We Binged Seasons at a time, but after season 5 we decided to slow it down to one a day! When the Wife and I decided to check it out, we were STUNNED at how great the series was. From the acting (James Spader is just Excellent) to the writing (overal “arc” of the series remained intact throughout) to the set locations, It all worked seamlessly to create a Great “Bingeworthy” watch. For me and my addled mind, “The Blacklist” is the de-facto Ultimate for anything within this genre that follows. I’m no critic but I know what I like. An often stated “critique” between the Wife and I of late is “It’s good…but it’s no Blacklist!” I sincerely hope you enjoy it.
Yes it’s “The Blacklist” Starring James Spader. the whole cast is awesome. Check it out and let us know if it’s your cup’o tea!
@Reece thank you for the Blacklist recommendation. I have tons of shows in my Trakt List but the new ones seem to be lacking seasons and episodes. I watched Season 1 ep 1 last night and this looks like a hefty winner that will last a long time. Kudos!
You are most welcome @SoloWarrior !!
