See if your credit card lets you have another number to use for online purchases. Citibank lets me use a number that can only be used for certain transactions and that is what I use for Debrid, Premiumize, and any other purchases that I think might be a little sketchy. PayPal is good but you still have to check your statement carefully, with a credit card issued number you just need to monitor that number. It just makes it easier for me.
Sorry that you had trouble with a scammer. They like to pick on us over 65ers. I track my mother’s accounts and continually worry about scammers getting her info. She doesn’t have a cell phone and gets 10-15 scam calls a day. They really like to pick on senior citizens.
Yes, that would apply for a standard PP account or credit card.
I have the standard PP account. But I also have a Paypal pre-paid debit card. I just load the amount I will need on that card. In the case of real debrid, I merely loaded $20 on the debit card which more than covered the subscription fee. After paying RD I had a bit over $3 left on the account and nothing more as this card is not a standard credit card. You have to have actual funds in the Pre-paid debit card for anyone to get bucks from it.
If you already have a Paypal account then you would be eligible to get Pre-paid debit card. It’s an actual physical card (i.e. it has your account number and the 3 digit code).
Just had this happen to me in the past week. Citibank notified me about suspicious charges. I contacted Citi, and they told me I had charges totaling over 4 grand. I checked my online account, and all charges were made in Georgia, mostly Atlanta and Savannah. I ordered Citi to refuse the charges, cancel card and send a new card. Why am I getting the idea that Citi has a problem and not talking about it? This is the third time this has happened to my Citibank card. And now I hear that you are having a tussle with Citi, really makes me wonder. Thanks for the info!
Try Privacy.com. You can create single use burner cards or card that are locked to a single company for reoccurring expenses. Also you can set spending limits on both types of cards.
I use a Revolut card. You load money on from your bank account and then use the card like a normal Credit/Debit card. If you are abroad the first £1000 is free when using currency exchange. The best bit for us is the app can create one time use disposable CC. Quick, easy and pain free
I’ve been using national do not call list for many years just look it up I add all my phone numbers to it. If they do call I tell him on the list if you’re on the list you’re not supposed to call you legitimate companies
Set up text and email alerts on your credit card. You’ll get an alert the exact moment something is charged. Put your credit card customer service number in your phone contacts to make it easier to call them and you can stop the fraud instantly!
I went on an 11 hour roadtrip yesterday and immediately after getting gas, I got a text and an email alert for $151 charge from the same Pilot gas station that I just spent $23.96 at. I immediately called Citibank they said they did not see any charge for $151. So I got 2 alerts with no actual charge so perhaps it was a gas station pump thing. There was a guy right next to me filling up three different vehicles so I thought somehow he scammed me but nothing. I’ve also checked the Citi app several times today just to make sure nothing shows up because I’m a psycho.
I won’t touch anything associated with PayPal. Had a horrible experience with them 20 years ago. It took over ten days to do an electronic transfer. I had made a leg purchase from EBay. only paypal was accepted. So I started the paypal transfer. Almost lost purchase due to PayPal. When I complained, all I got back was snark, so I cancelled any and all transactions and accounts with them. Suddenly I started getting scam phishers saying from PayPal. All go directly to SPAM trash!
If you don’t answer any questions you won’t know which card they are talking about. Better still to do as I do and screen all your calls, by not answering to unknown numbers. If it is anyone legitimate, they will ring back.
If they already knew your card details, there would be no need to ring you. Just make sure that there is now way for scammers to get at you. Most Master/Visa cards haave a customer guarantee against fraud and should by rights notify you of any peculiar transactions.
If in the likely event anyone does get your card details, then cancel the card immediately. I keep track of my credit cards on a regular basis via the phone app. This way any irregular payments can be stopped.
We give out our security pins upon request to verify the card is leit, but you must be wary to whom you are dealing with when doing so.
I only give out the pin when setting up a direct debit and never do so upon request from anyone else. It is not needed to complete a transaction.
Your car information could get stolen from anyone you have purchased goods from in the past.
Have that already. A couple of purchases had already been denied. The fourth purchase, I was contacted by text, and immediately my cell rang. Then I was told verbally of the rest of the purchases. And you know the rest of the story.. Thanks for responding!
