Google's Sideloading Crackdown Moves Closer to Enforcement

Thanks all! I’m just trying to wrap my head around the whole Google universe.

But Google actually owns the ASOP core. Maybe not in my lifetime but thinking that Google could possibly decide to take control of licensing the ASOP core since they own it.

As far as the Shield, Nvidia seems to be following their own path by modifying the typical Android OS path and not following suit with Google.

@954bar, the common sense alternative to the Fire products is now the ONN products due to price point. Not everyone can justify $100+ streaming boxes. And at this point it is really unknown how far Goggle will go in the crackdown. It’s all speculation at this point. So if you spent $30 on the ONN Plus you should be good for awhile until everything shakes out. Many feel that Google isn’t going to be as tough as it might seem.

Yes, they have their own mods to the OS, but it’s still a Google TV (certified) framework.

Hello, see my post above. I still strongly recommend Onn Android TV Boxes.

My older Google chromecast had the adb port changed to a random port during the last upgrade. instead of 5555 now it changes every boot i believe. I can still sideload but they are tinkering with things!!

This may be a dumb question but would it affect apps like IMplayer or Tivimate?

how much

about $200 on amazon, I purhased from ugoos store for about 170

shouldnt unless they try and block ads

Will this issue affect the ONN 4K streaming devices

Possibly? Nobody knows at this point and if something is going to happen it will not be at least till 2027 and most likely you will be able to click through the messages saying “The Boogeyman is in this app do you still want to install?”

Not going to worry at all over this and keep on using my ONN Boxes.

Welcome gif

I can understand they can take downloader from the store, but can they stop it if it is already on your system?

No. It isn’t an app that has no illegal content and is a legal app in every way.

I’m in the UK too. I think the other options for us are the Thomson Android boxes which are almost identical to the Onn boxes in the US. My fire cube and fire stick are working fine so far but if they get blocked, that’s what I’ll go for.

Amazon United States sells the Ugoos as well. They actually have a store on Amazon.

For the AM9 Pro an earlier poster referenced Amazon retails it for $209.90

Well onn are certified tv boxes and we still be able to download smarters, and tivimate and many other player apps, apks in their app stores, correct? Are they not legitimate apps?

I would assume so, as Troy mentioned it probably won’t be as strict as amazons new policy. iow

Don’t panic yet lol

No panic, open the smarters app and add your url, username, password and your good to go
