"If police officers themselves are concerned that the system can be used to monitor them without transparent rules, the public should ask an obvious follow-up question: What prevents the same tools from being used to follow residents, employees, journalists, activists, former partners, or other people with no meaningful ability to challenge the search??
TV’s that are watching you and getting flocked by these cameras, what’s next, implants? Wait, don’t cell phones track you? Alexa, Siri anyone? It’s a brave new world.
I’m charging for autographs now. Don’t get jealous. Not everyone can be this good looking. My face is everywhere. Ignore those wanted posters. That’s just some lame hater Police officer.
Ohhhh hey ya. Tx @PapaS Have a wonderful fall day. Perfect weather here for a change. Great for the harvest. Be well my friend. Always good to see you.
How about Ring Doorbells or similar systems. You can’t walk through an apartment/condo complex or residential neighborhood without being on someone’s camera. How about Meta glasses and similar wearables? These systems are far less regulated and can pose similar privacy issues.
I think Flock systems can do great good in solving horrendous crimes, but if not properly regulated abuse can and will occur. Hackers who stole a device further revealed how easy internal encryption can be defeated. I worry more about the Chinese/Russian/Iranian bad actors using are own systems against us!
I find it odd when ppl talk about privacy. I simply don’t get it. When you are outside your house you are in the public eye and cannot, or do not have, any privacy nor expectations of privacy. Been that way for the 72 yrs I’ve been alive and that’s way before any such thing as cameras. Once you step out of your house you have zero privacy and to me that’s perfectly acceptable and quite normal and doesn’t bother me in the slightest. If you want absolute privacy then stay in your house, lock the doors, block the windows, or better yet don’t have windows or skylights, make sure nothing inside has a camera or mic or other listening device. Now that’s just me,but if you step outside your house or residence then IMHO anyone has the right to take a picture or video of you and your activities regardless of what you are doing and you should have no expectation of privacy. Of course this is just my view and I don’t care if someone is videoing me, or taking pics of me, as I have absolutely nothing to hide and I am not doing, or will be doing, anything illegal. However I do think if you want my autograph you should offer me a gratuity. Stay tuned for video at 11.
Flock cameras also log your phone pings and bluetooth. If you ride to work with someone daily, they build profiles of your activity. They know your associates. Police can show up randomly to question you if you were “in the area” of a crime, even if you never drove there. A photo is one thing, but getting tracked constantly is another. I’ve seen a few videos where cops were in the wrong over bad flock info and treated the people horribly. I hope to see better laws passed regarding who can see the info and why.
