I think a developer could make a mint, if he/she could come up with an app that could clone one device to another! For example, I have two nVidia Shields and once I get one set up to the way I want, I would love to clone that Shield to my other Shield that includes all settings and apps. Am I missing any apps that will do that??
You are correct in that it doesn’t exist. The problem is security restrictions within the OS. The most popular devices by far are Android and you can’t do something like that due to security risks. You also have different display and audio settings for different devices. Different network settings, etc.
Am I wrong that this can’t be done? I’m about to try to do just that with some x5m boxes.. I’m going to set one up just right, running slim box.
then make a backup, and then put it on the next one. I’ve never done this. I’ve ran it through 3 AI’s for months tho and it should be possible?
I’d be happy to be wrong, but I’ve never heard of it being successfully done without some kind of issue. I believe you’d have to have root access on whatever device being cloned. Let us know how it ends up.
There are programs/apps which allow you to basically clone your Android phone and save pictures, music, apps, data, and settings. Those backup apps for your phone are not perfect, and you still need to reinstall some things, but, at least it gets you started with most of what you had on your phone. While security is a concern, I would think there could be a workaround for the security obstacles like there is on phones. At some point, AI will be able to come up with a solution I bet!
Yeah, I’d be surprised if it works. When you make a backup or clone a copy of one machine, it also saves identifying markers of that machine. When you try to install that backup/clone onto another machine, it will detect those identifiers and not let you do it.
