Usually, when a company acquires a competing company, they try to combine the best of both into one and consolidate their overhead.

Indeed! But Nord reps are adamant that both Nord VPN and SS will remain independent operators.
I wonder how many people purchase one or the other (or both) and don’t realize they are owned by the same parent company?
I’ve had IPVanish and Proton in the past, and now use SurfShark. I am certain Nord is a good product, but I already purchased a 3 yr sub for SurfShark and in no way am I going to add Nord just so I can view a few blocked channels when using USTVGO!
