Things like smaller video file size, better compression, smoother playback, possibly less buffering, no licensing fee for those coding vids as it’s open source, and the list goes on.

Thanks Miki… Grace don’t ya remember when AV1 was the next best thing since sliced bread? … well this is V2.0 :sweat_smile:

Even though it promises advantages over AV1, it’ll be a while before we see chipsets that support AV2 hardware decoding. Until then we’ll just have to see how much of a CPU hit we get from software decoding (or even the minimum CPU spec required) and how this affects the popularity of AV2 encoded media

Remember that AV1 is about 10 years old now and it took a long time before AV1 hardware decoding was readily available so AV2 hardware decoding may be some years away
