Amazon Faces Lawsuit Over Firestick Slowdowns

Originally published at: Amazon Faces Lawsuit Over Firestick Slowdowns

A new lawsuit against Amazon is raising serious concerns for streaming users. The complaint claims the company interfered with older Amazon Fire TV Stick devices, causing them to slow down and pushing customers toward newer models. This isn’t just a minor complaint. If true, it suggests users may have been dealing with performance issues that…

Well, I ditched my 1st gen and 2nd gen sticks because they would just bog down and become unusable (yes, I reset them to factory specs but no difference). I seriously doubt Amazon did this but, if they did, they deserve everything coming their way!!!

It always feels like the older a Firestick gets the slower it becomes…

I kind of feel that way, the older I get, the slower I become!!!

A few months ago I got a very basic firestick HD (in the UK you don’t get much choice) to use in my bedroom o a small TV. It was terrible, it wouldn’t do anything except catchup services etc. it was absolutely terrible even at doing that, it stuttered & lagged constantly. I ended up chucking it at the wall and getting the 4k firestick which works great but it is only working on a 1080p TV.

I don’t even remember what my last one was, maybe a 4k. It started giving all kinds of trouble and pissing me off. I got out my old Formuler Z and everything works great. Hmmmm

I resemble that remark

I’ve had lots of issues with you tube which seemed very weird. Crashing out to the main menu, usually happening when it’s seemingly glitching when skipping bits of videos. I reinstalled it but no change. Now I think it’s the thing mentioned in this post. This is terrible if it’s happening

Over the years they’ve constantly slowed down during updates causing you to think there’s something wrong well I went right to the system about and there was an update waiting I don’t know of any other company that causes you interruption during a movie or searching for something else because of an update.

Also fact on my fire cube latest gen when Amazon didn’t like you using third party apks they were turning off my ipvanish constantly. Exposing me.

Also on past tablets I owned one hd8 after downloading Google Play store twice after using the fire TV remote from Google Play store they deregistered my device. I lost everything.

The fire cube now on my home screen when I click a show it opens the prime video app it’s not supposed to redirect I’ve never had it for years on any device of Amazon’s redirect me to the prime video app it takes about 10 seconds for show to start I’ve deleted the prime video app through total Commander problem is if I want to watch live shows or subscribe to example Discovery Plus it won’t allow me until I get the prime video app I think Amazon implemented this. Problem is I don’t see anybody complaining about this so it could just be my unit got corrupt no longer also syncing with favorites in my stuff only on the prime video app I prefer the fire TV home screen when playing you’ll also see what streaming quality it is.

I did get the Onn 4k pro v2 it is better than the cube the AI in it when asking a question will give me a good accurate answer not like the cube or any Alexa devices I have. Saying can’t help you with that. Only thing about the pro is the audio from the device itself sucks but does broadcast to my soundbar and TV great

Sorry to go a little off topic Amazon has gone downhill with the streaming sticks. I had a stick that wouldn’t connect to Wi-Fi and didn’t know they added a setting to turn on and off Wi-Fi which I’ve never seen before but after I did a factory reset I saw it hidden down below that pissed me off they could just send you an email about new settings that they’ve added but they turned it off.

I have to add though when years go by apps hold a lot more space which could cause your system to slow down. I have an old Samsung Galaxy s5e that was great for years it has 6gb ram. Before an hour is up that ram is being used almost all the way and I’ve had to use kill apps to close all the background apps that don’t need to be running another app to clear the cache. And Chrome is a high user of RAM and cache fact not just guessing I see it.

Also Amazon says that they do not cover updates anymore after a certain amount of years after they stop selling it it is written in there policy. So if you get updates you’re lucky. I’m still running the firebox 2015 I believe edition after purchasing another one because the person I’m with likes to use the headphones with the gaming remote it still works not as fast as the newer ones but still works.

I don’t think they’ll win their lawsuit. Just my take sorry to run a little off topic. Cheers
